Which UPPRPB posts actually need typing
Only the ministerial-track SI & ASI positions — SI Confidential, SI Accounts, SI Clerk, ASI Clerk, ASI Accounts — require a typing test. The field-cadre SI (responsible for investigation and patrolling) does not have a typing skill test, only the physical and written stages.
Read your recruitment notification carefully — the phrase to look for is 'typing skill test at 25 WPM Hindi' or 'लिपिकीय एवं लेखा' (clerical and accounts) in the post list. If your notification doesn't mention typing, you're on the field track and this page does not apply.
Why the 7% error cap is kinder than UPPRPB CO
UPPRPB Sub-Inspector ministerial typing is qualifying only, not merit-contributing, with a 7% error cap — both settings are closer to UPSSSC than to UPPRPB Computer Operator. The exam is designed as a minimum-competence filter for ministerial duties: court paperwork, FIR typing, daily diary entries — most of which is Hindi prose heavy in names and administrative vocabulary.
The practical bar: once you can type 27–28 WPM Hindi with under 6% errors in a practice simulator like this one, exam-day performance will comfortably clear 25 WPM at 7%. Do not waste weeks chasing 35 WPM; invest those weeks elsewhere in the syllabus.

Representative passage flavour
Hindi administrative prose in the style of UP Police daily diaries, FIR narration (sanitised), law-and-order press notices, and court-facing reports. Vocabulary emphasises: प्रथम सूचना रिपोर्ट, अभियुक्त, अनुसंधान, अधीनस्थ, कार्यवाही, स्थानीय अधिकारी.
Preparation tips — how to clear this test in 30 days
- Three weeks of daily 45-minute practice is typical for a candidate with 15+ WPM baseline Hindi speed.
- Use this page's passage-regenerate feature to cycle through many passages — do not memorise any single one.
- Practice with your phone face-down and a closed-door room to mimic exam invigilation conditions; distraction tolerance matters for ministerial-track SI.
- Target 28 WPM Hindi in practice to comfortably exceed the 25 WPM exam bar.
- Do not practice shortcut keys (Ctrl-A, delete-word). They're non-functional on the exam terminal and you shouldn't build the habit.
Common mistakes that fail candidates in this test
- Typing too fast early in the 10-minute window and then slowing down due to nerves. Steady pace > early sprint.
- Not typing out numerals. UP Police passages have many dates and section numbers (IPC धारा 420 etc). If you've only practiced prose, numeric keys feel alien.
- Skipping the Devanagari matra forms for कोई, कौनसा, क्यों. These are the #1 half-mistake source in practice sessions we analyse.
- Sitting with wrong posture for 10 minutes — wrist angle matters more at SI-level speeds than WPM tests suggest. Practice in the chair you will be seated in.
- Ignoring the post-exam verification step — UPPRPB asks you to review your output before submission; this is NOT a chance to fix errors (backspace is still locked), but a verification that the system captured your text.
Frequently asked questions
Does SI in UP Police need a typing test?
Only the ministerial-track Sub-Inspector posts (SI Confidential, Accounts, Clerk) need typing. Field SI investigating crimes does not.
What is the required typing speed for UPPRPB SI / ASI?
25 WPM in Hindi Kruti Dev 010 (or Mangal Inscript), backspace disabled, 10-minute duration, 7% error tolerance.
Is UPPRPB SI typing test qualifying or merit-contributing?
Qualifying only. You must cross the 25 WPM bar within the 7% error cap to be eligible for the post — but your typing speed does not add marks to your final rank.
Can I use Mangal font for UPPRPB SI typing test?
Yes — recent notifications allow both Kruti Dev 010 (Remington Gail mapping) and Mangal (Inscript). Choose whichever you type faster on; most Kruti Dev aspirants continue with the Remington Gail layout.
How long should I prepare for UPPRPB ASI Clerk typing test?
3–4 weeks of daily 45-minute practice is sufficient for 15+ WPM baseline typists. Absolute beginners need 6–8 weeks.
